Traditional Frame Restoration
Trained in Italy in the traditional art of frame restoration and gilding Jodie Prymke CGF is Adelaide's specialist in antique frame restoration, repair and gilding.
Most old and damaged frames can be repaired successfully, and we would encourage you to do this, rather than replace it with a new one. Replacing an old frame with a new one can actually de-value a piece of art, especially if it was the frame the artist originally chose for it.

There are two main types of gilding - oil gilding and water gilding.
The names indicate the method by which the metal leaf is applied to the surface.
The oldest and most beautiful method of applying gold leaf, is that of water gilding. It is an art form as much as it is a process. Leafed only by hand, water gilding produces a luster and richness unmatched by any other method of gilding.

Oil gilding is the easier method for applying gold leaf, and is most often used on ornate picture frames. The advantage of oil gilding is that it can be applied to any smooth non-porous surface.
